Ross has a strong interest in menswear and discusses masculinity through his work. This can be seen through his thesis completed as part of his honours degree at uts which looked at how intimacy and connection could be centred in mens’ everyday lives through fashion. Though menswear is a passion, it is a smaller segment of the fashion industry and he still has womenswear design experience.
Ross is intelligent, creative, dedicated, and has strong visual and verbal communication, time and project management skills. He likes working in areas that are intellectually stimulating and challenging; projects and workplaces that you can learn and develop skills in.
Handcraft is a strong element of his practice, and extensive experience with several handmade techniques can be seen. His honours collection had several half-tone screenprints all done by hand, and all fabrications were hand-dyed with acid and reactive dyes. His work at J.andreatta shows extensive experience hand-sewing lace, beading, drapework, embroidery etc as well as various hand-sewn finishings used in a couture workplace. Through honours, and his menswear capsule, Ross has experience patternmaking menswear shapes from scratch. Working with a focus on handcraft and the labour of fashion is a passion of his and he argues in his thesis this creates a kind of intimacy between craftsman and wearer.
